It’s the 25th anniversary of the Fallout videogame franchise, and to mark the celebration, Prime Video has released the first look image of their upcoming live-action TV series adaptation. Check it out below!
The first look image from the Fallout TV series shows members of Vault 33 looking on as someone enters (or exits) the Vault. You might notice that there also appears to be a body lying on the ground to the left of the Vault door. The cast of the series includes Walton Goggins (Justified), Ella Purnell (Yellowjackets), and Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks).
Fallout is a post-apocalyptic role-playing videogame series heavily influenced by 1950s post-war culture. Much of the franchise takes place hundreds of years after a great war over resources decimated the planet. The U.S. government set up a series of self-sufficient fallout shelters known as Vaults, but there wasn’t enough room for everyone and those who survived the nuclear fallout have become horribly mutated. Despite the grim tone, there’s also plenty of moments of humor to be found in the post-apocalyptic wasteland.
Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy began developing the Fallout series for Prime Video nearly two years ago. “Fallout is one of the greatest game series of all time,” said Nolan and Joy at the time. “Each chapter of this insanely imaginative story has cost us countless hours we could have spent with family and friends. So we’re incredibly excited to partner with Todd Howard and the rest of the brilliant lunatics at Bethesda to bring this massive, subversive, and darkly funny universe to life with Amazon Studios.” Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel) and Graham Wagner (Silicon Valley) are serving as showrunners of the Fallout series, with Nolan directing the premiere episode. No official release date for the Fallout TV series has been announced, but it’s expected it will debut on Prime Video in 2023.
