Disney has been rolling out sneak peeks at a lot of their new movies at the D23 Expo, including the first teaser trailer for The Little Mermaid. The live-action remake from Rob Marshall stars Halle Bailey (grown-ish) Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure.
“The youngest of King Triton’s daughters, and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric,” reads the official synopsis. “While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.” The live-action remake also stars Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Art Malik as Sir Grimsby, Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina, Javier Bardem as King Triton, and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula. The film also features the voices of Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, and Awkwafina as Scuttle.
A new trailer for Disenchanted was also released, the sequel to 2007’s Enchanted starring Amy Adams.
“It has been 15 years since Giselle (Amy Adams) and Robert (Patrick Dempsey) wed, but Giselle has grown disillusioned with life in the city, so they move their growing family to the sleepy suburban community of Monroeville in search of a more fairy tale life,” reads the official synopsis. “Unfortunately, it isn’t the quick fix she had hoped for. Suburbia has a whole new set of rules and a local queen bee, Malvina Monroe (Maya Rudolph), who makes Giselle feel more out of place than ever. Frustrated that her happily ever after hasn’t been so easy to find, she turns to the magic of Andalasia for help, accidentally transforming the entire town into a real-life fairy tale and placing her family’s future happiness in jeopardy. Now, Giselle is in a race against time to reverse the spell and determine what happily ever after truly means to her and her family.” In addition to Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey, Disenchanted also stars Idina Menzel, James Marsden, Maya Rudolph, Gabriella Baldacchino, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Jayma Mays.
Featuring new songs from Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz, Disenchanted will premiere on Disney+ on November 24th. The Little Mermaid will hit theaters on May 26, 2023. What did you think of the teaser trailers for The Little Mermaid and Disenchanted?
