Chadwick Boseman’s widow gives first interview since death

It has been just over two years since Chadwick Boseman died, and now his widow, Simone Ledward Boseman, has given her first interview since her husband’s passing.

In a sitdown with Good Morning America, Simone spoke highly and personally about her time with Chadwick Boseman, saying, “I can’t believe that I got to love this person, and I also got them to love me too.”

She also noted that the final months with her husband, who she married privately not long before Chadwick Boseman’s death, came during the Covid pandemic, which proved to be a blessing in disguise. “Everybody was in their house, and there was no pressure for anybody to go outside…It seemed like, Is this a crazy coincidence that we get to actually be inside? We get to be here with family, together. And everybody in the world is also experiencing this togetherness in the midst of this awful, scary, unpredictable time. We kept our circle real—our circle was basically a dot.” In other words, the close-knit bond between the family was especially tight during the trying times of both the pandemic and Boseman’s cancer.

Chadwick Boseman was actually diagnosed with colon cancer in 2016, the same year he first appeared as T’Challa aka Black Panther.  Boseman died not too far into the pandemic in August 2020. His final film, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, earned him his only Academy Award nomination, a posthumous nod for Best Actor.

2022 has been a surprisingly big year for Chadwick Boseman. In addition to the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever this fall, Boseman was also named a Disney Legend.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever hits theaters on November 11th. It is the final film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Four. Will you be seeing Wakanda Forever when it hits the big screen?
