Contact Lady Whistledown and let her know that the numbers are in and that Bridgerton is back to breaking records. Upon releasing the streaming platform’s weekly top 10 for March 21-27, it’s become clear that viewers are back aboard the train to Bridgerton. Within three days of its premiere, season two of Bridgerton gathered 193 million hours of viewing time worldwide. Part of what makes this moment so unique is that Bridgerton has the highest viewing totals for an English-language Netflix series. This moment also marks the second-highest opening weekend total for any Netflix series.
The sophomore season of Bridgerton follows Lord Anthony Bridgerton (played by Jonathan Bailey), the eldest Bridgerton sibling and Viscount, as he sets out to find a suitable wife. Driven by his duty to uphold the family name, Anthony’s search for a debutante seems ill-fated until Kate Sharma (Sex Education‘s Simone Ashley) and her younger sister Edwina (Alex Rider‘s Charithra Chandran) arrive from India.
When Anthony begins to court Edwina, Kate discovers the true nature of his intentions — a true love match is not high on his priority list — and decides to do everything in her power to stop the union. But in doing so, Kate and Anthony’s verbal sparring matches only bring them closer together, complicating matters on both sides.
Meanwhile, across Grosvenor Square, the Featheringtons must welcome the newest heir to their estate. At the same time, Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) continues to navigate the ton while keeping her deepest secret from the people closest to her.
The cast of Bridgerton Season 2 also includes Adjoa Andoh (as Lady Danbury), Lorraine Ashbourne (Mrs. Varley), Harriet Cains (Philipa Featherington), Bessie Carter (Prudence Featherington), Shelley Conn (Mary Sharma), Phoebe Dynevor (Daphne Basset), Ruth Gemmell (Violet Bridgerton), Florence Hunt (Hyacinth Bridgerton), Martins Imhangbe (Will Mondrich), Claudia Jessie (Eloise Bridgerton), Calam Lynch (Theo Sharpe), Luke Newton (Colin Bridgerton), Golda Rosheuvel (Queen Charlotte), Luke Thompson (Benedict Bridgerton), Will Tilston (Gregory Bridgerton), Polly Walker (Portia Featherington), and Rupert Young (Jack).
I’m not going to lie. I am counting down the days until my partner and I can move on to Bridgerton Season 2. We’re in the middle of watching the second season of The Witcher right now, but after that, it’s time to put on our bespoke finery and enjoy some high-society shenanigans. I never thought that Bridgerton would be the thing I could get into, but that first season sucked me in. Cheers to you, Bridgerton. Enjoy your time at the top of the charts.
