Dexter director Michael Cuesta has been tapped to helm the first episode of Daredevil: Born Again for Marvel Studios.
Daredevil: Born Again is gearing up to start shooting in New York later this month and THR has reported that Marvel Studios has tapped Michael Cuesta to direct the first episode.
Michael Cuesta has some major pilots under his belt, as he directed the opening episodes for Dexter and Homeland. Cuesta has also helmed episodes of Six Feet Under, True Blood, Blue Bloods, Elementary, Billions, and City on a Hill. Sources told THR that Michael Cuesta is only directing the opening episode of Daredevil: Born Again as other directors are being lined up for the rest of the season. Setting the stage for a new series is an important gig, and I’m sure Michael Cuesta will get Daredevil: Born Again off on the right foot. Daredevil: Born Again is written and executive produced by Matt Corman and Chris Ord and will consist of eighteen episodes.
Charlie Cox reprises his role as Matt Murdoch/Daredevil for the series. The actor officially rejoined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Vincent D’Onofrio will be back as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, and it was announced earlier this week that Jon Bernthal will also return as The Punisher. Michael Gandolfini (The Many Saints of Newark), Margarita Levieva (The Deuce), Michael Gaston (Fringe), and Sandrine Holt (Better Call Saul) are also part of the cast, and THR’s report mentions that Holt will be playing Vanessa Fisk, wife of Kingpin. Ayelet Zurer (Moonhaven) played the role in the Netflix Daredevil series.
Charlie Cox has said that he was “really emotional” reprising Daredevil for She-Hulk, but had a blast working with Tatiana Maslany. “I had a really fun time with Tatiana, and the chemistry between those two characters, the back and forth, was so much fun,” Cox said. “We got to see a new side of Matt Murdock, a side of him where he’s kind of enjoying his role and having fun and flirting.” Maslany has also expressed an interest in making an appearance on Daredevil: Born Again, which would certainly make sense given where She-Hulk left the two characters. Daredevil: Born Again will debut on Disney+ in 2024.
