Writer/director Zach Cregger’s horror film Barbarian was given a theatrical release on September 9th – and now 20th Century Studios and New Regency have announced that the movie will be getting a digital release just in time for Halloween! To be specific, Barbarian will be available to watch digitally as of October 25th.
Cregger, who co-created the TV series The Whitest Kids U’Know, crafted a story for Barbarian that begins when
a young woman traveling to Detroit for a job interview books a rental home. But when she arrives late at night, she discovers that the house is double booked, and a strange man is already staying there. Against her better judgement, she decides to spend the evening, but soon discovers that there’s a lot more to fear than just an unexpected house guest.
The film stars Georgina Campbell (Krypton), Bill Skarsgård (It), Justin Long (Tusk), Matthew Patrick Davis (Dwight in Shining Armor), Jaymes Butler (Spides), Kurt Braunohler (The Big Sick), J.R. Esposito (Pandora), Devina Vassileva (Memory), Kalina Stancheva (Assassin’s Bullet), Sophie Sörensen (The Tales of Toverud), Trevor Van Uden (A Drunk Scorpion Will Sting Itself to Death), and Richard Brake (31).
Barbarian comes to digital with the following bonus features, but note that bonus features may vary by retailer:
Featurette: Behind Barbarian – Director Zach Cregger and the cast and crew discuss both the unique and familiar horror elements that make Barbarian terrifying and reveal the inspiration behind the horrific tale.
Deleted Scenes: Bonnie, Doug Extended, Tess Calls Marcus, The Rat
Barbarian was produced by Arnon Milchan, Roy Lee, Raphael Margules, and J.D. Lifshitz. Skarsgård serves as executive producer alongside Michael Schaefer, Natalie Lehmann, Danny Chan, and Alex Lebovici.
I haven’t seen Barbarian yet myself, and despite the fact that I have seen a lot of horror fans speaking very positively about it, I have managed to avoid all spoilers so far. I look forward to watching the movie – and finally seeing what it’s really about – in just a couple weeks. JoBlo’s own Lance Vlcek gave Barbarian a 7/10 review you can read HERE.
